Orang Timur

Jepun pandang ke barat.
Untuk kemajuan.
Apa nak jadi dengan malaysia.

Pandangannya ke mana.
Di mana arahmu.
Sedar bangunlah.
Pesat dan majukan negerimu.

Orang timur bangunlah.
Pesat dan majukan negerimu.

Apakah warna kulitmu.
Apakah kita sama.
Ke manakah perginya.
Mana arah mu.

Marilah kita bangunkannya.
Untuk kepentingan kita bersama.
Setapak langkahmu ke hadapan.
Bererti kejayaan.

Champions Beat 600 Other Entries to Win Autodesk Design Competition 2008

MALAYSIA, Kuala Lumpur, November 10, 2008 – Student designers from Politeknik Merlimau and Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin emerged as winners for both the building design and manufacturing design categories of the Autodesk Design Competition 2008. At an award presentation ceremony recently, winners of the second installation of the competition received accolades and rewards worth more than RM75,000. Themed ‘Urbanisation in Design’, the Autodesk Design Competition 2008 was organised by Autodesk Malaysia and sponsored by HP. The competition, supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, made its debut last year with two categories – Building Design and Manufacturing Design. “The competition was designed to provide a platform for Malaysian tertiary students to showcase their talents and be recognised for their creativity, innovative thinking, and design expertise. It gives young, aspiring Malaysian designers opportunity to demonstrate their design skills and to experience their designs in the digital world before they are made real,” said Tan Choon Sang (CS), country manager, Autodesk Malaysia. “The winning entries have shown that there are no boundaries to creativity. It is heartening to see the quality and innovative design ideas from these students. The results demonstrate the unlimited creativity of Malaysians and our ability to think out-of-the-box which is key in leading the way to some of the world’s most successful products and powerful structures. I hope to see more of these initiatives at an industry level to spur growth of the local talent pool and subsequently challenging their skills to identify the best-of-breeds in the making,” said YBhg. Dato’ Haji Imran Bin Idris, Director General, Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education, Ministry of Higher Education. Over the past few months, close to 600 hopeful participants registered for the competition to vie for Autodesk prizes worth more than RM75,000. They worked round the clock to create an innovative project using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Revit, industry leading software for the building design and manufacturing design respectively. The winning entries scored highly not only on innovation and creativity but also at the application, practicality and appeal of the design developed. The winning design idea for the Building Category belonged to Hazry Bin Jamaludin from Politeknik Merlimau, while Muhd Suhaimi Bin Mokhtar from Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, won the first prize in the Manufacturing Category. Each of the first prize winners took home cash prizes plus Autodesk and HP products worth more than RM14,000.“My winning design was influenced by the traditional form of the renaissance era, inspired by the community’s needs and the importance of preserving local cultural factor. I’m a person who thrives on challenges. In the first few days after I received the competition brief, I could not wait to translate the idea into the entry. Using Autodesk Revit, I was then able to solely focus on perfecting my design using the software,” gushed Hazry Bin Jamaludin from Politeknik Merlimau, first prize winner in the Building Category.“The Autodesk Design Competition is the first major project that I’ve worked on, involving comprehensive designs starting from scratch. This is the perfect timing and a great practice platform for me before I brace myself for the upcoming Asean Skills Competition 2008 (CAD Mechanical) hosted in Malaysia. As one of the winners in this competition, I’m now confident that I can make the country proud! Competitions like these are what students like me need to practice our soft skills. After-all, knowledge is not just about theories,” said Raja Shariff Hidayatullah Bin Raja Shariffudin from Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara, second prize winner in the Manufacturing Category.
